A Season-Best Senior Celebration Meet

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/26/24)---Concordia seniors Rachel Andersen, Royce Nhantumbo and Brienna Timm were honored during the annual Senior Celebration Meet as the Cobbers posted several season-best marks in their final home meet of the season.

All three seniors then used the energy of their special day to turn in season-best marks in four events.

Andersen started the meet by coming away with her best time in the 1000-meter freestyle. She touched the wall in a time of 14:01.70, which was 33 seconds faster than her previous top time in 2024.

Nhantumbo turned in her top time of the year in the 50-yard freestyle. She raced to a finishing time of 33.09, which bested her previous season's best of 33.55 that came at the Macalester Invite in December.     

Timm scored season-best times in two events. She swam a 2:37.60 in the 200-yard individual medley and then followed that up with a mark of 6:11.13 in the 500-yard freestyle.         

First-year swimmer Callie Metsala came away with the only event win against Division II MSU Moorhead. Concordia posted four other Top 3 finishes but it wasn't enough as CC fell 189-44 to the Dragons.

Metsala claimed the lone win for the Cobbers in the 100-yard breaststroke where she clocked a time of 1:13.42 and won the event by .05 of a second. Her time was only .40 of a second off of her season-best mark which is in the Top 15 of the MIAC this season.

Metsala was also fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.60.

Chea Baugh and Haley Juetten had the other season-best times in the meet for Concordia. Baugh raced to a 5:45.45 in the 500-yard freestyle and was out-touched by .15 of a second for second place. Her previous best mark in the event was 5:50.80.

Juetten's top mark of the year came in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she clocked a 1:19.19 and finished in fourth place. That time was .36 of a second faster than her mark at the Macalester Invite.

Hailey Jaeger had the other Top 3 finish for CC. She recorded a time of 26.76 in the 50-yard freestyle and placed third. That finishing time was only .05 of a second off her best time this year.

Junior diver Kiernan Darling was third in the 1-meter mandatory dives with a score of 143.05. The highlight of the meet for Darling was when she nailed her reverse one-and-a-half.

Up Next: The Cobbers will have a 19-day break to train and taper before competing at the MIAC Championship Meet on Feb. 14-17 at the University of Minnesota.
