Metsala & Baugh Lead Cobbers At Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (1/19/24)---First-year swimmers Callie Metsala and Chea Baugh earned individual event wins and helped the Cobber 200-yard freestyle relay team record a win in the final event in their dual meet at Jamestown.

Despite their three event wins and eight Top 3 finishes, Concordia came out on the short of a 121-74 final score in the dual meet against the Jimmies.

Metsala delivered her event win in the third race of the day when she clocked a 2:08.30 in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time was 5 seconds faster than the runner-up in the event from Jamestown. Cobber sophomore Tinsley Porter was third in the event with a finishing time of 2:23.99.

Metsala also posted a Top 3 finish in the 100-yard butterfly when she placed third with a mark of 1:03.18.  

Baugh came through with her win two events later in the 200-yard individual medley. She touched the wall in a season-best time of 2:27.19, which won the race by almost 4 seconds.        

Like Metsala, Baugh also had a Top 3 finish in a second event. Baugh was able to come home in second place in the 100-yard freestyle. Baugh's finishing time of 1:01.80 was only 1.62 seconds off the winning mark.

Brienna Timm and Christina Moore swam the third and fourth legs of the Concordia 200-yard freestyle relay team which finished the meet with a victory. Metsala and Baugh started the relay before Timm and Moore brought home the win with a time of 1:53.83.

Timm, Moore, and Haley Juetten also came through with Top 3 finishes in individual events. Timm was second in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 6:13.62, while Moore was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best mark of 1:10.99 and Juetten was third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.80.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road and travel farther west to compete in a dual meet at the University of Mary on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
