Jaeger Wins 50-Yard Freestyle, Leads Cobbers At Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (11/20/21)---Freshman Hailey Jaeger won the 50-yard freestyle and finished third in the 100-yard butterfly to lead Concordia at the multi-team, Grace Goblirsch Invitational held at Gustavus.

Jaeger's performance was a part of six Top 10 results for the Cobbers in a meet that featured seven different teams and was won by the host Gusties.

Jaeger out touched the second-place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle by a mere .05 of a second. Jaeger clocked a season-best time of 25.83 to win the event that featured 35 swimmers.

Jaeger's second top 10 finish of the day came in the 100-yard butterfly. She swam a 1:05.57 which was also a season best.

Junior Kaitlin Cramer had the other Top 5 finish in the meet for CC – and posted a pair of Top 10 finishes in the meet. She swam a 1:07.10 in the 100-yard backstroke and claimed fifth place. That time is Cramer's fastest of the year. Cramer then completed the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:56.74 which was good for 7th place.

Jess Bray and Rachel Andersen completed the quintet of Top 10 finishes. Bray raced to an 8th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 59.67. That time is .23 of a second faster than her previous season best.

Andersen posted a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke but it was her performance in the 500-yard freestyle that really stood out. Anderson was able to touch the wall in 2:31.68 in the 200-yard backstroke which was only 1.23 seconds out of ninth place.

Andersen posted the biggest time drop of any Cobber in any event at the meet when she covered the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:11.59. That finishing mark represents a drop of 16.01 seconds off of her season best mark.

  Concordia will only have one meet before the Christmas break. The Cobbers will swim at the University of Mary in a dual meet on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.
