Hedstrom Dives Into Top 10 In Final Day At MIAC Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/16/13)—Freshman diver Jana Hedstrom highlighted the final day of competition at the MIAC Championship Meet for Concordia. Hedstrom became the only Cobber individual to score team points and helped CC finish ninth.

Concordia kept the status quo in the team standings after Friday. The Cobbers recorded 41 points on Saturday to finish with a final team total of 136 points.

Hedstrom's point-scoring event came in the 1-meter competition. She scored 359.45 points in the semifinals and then had 339.90 points in the finals to finish in seventh place. Hedstrom qualified in sixth spot in the semifinals and her total in that round was a season best.

The Cobbers also earned team points in the final relay of the meet. The Concordia 400-yard freestyle relay team of Joleen Baker, Rachel Aldinger, Kelsey Appert and Amanda Suchanek swam a 3:48.48 and finished seventh. Their final time was almost 13 seconds faster than their seed time. The time is also the fastest by a CC relay unit since the 2011 meet.

Cobber sophomore Hannah Winge recorded the top individual swimming finish on Saturday morning. Winge had the biggest upswing in her season-best time when she clocked a 2:36.07 in the 200-yard breaststroke. That time bettered her previous season best of 2:46.92.

The other top 20 finish during Saturday's morning session was turned in by senior Suchanek who came away with a 20th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Suchanek had a time of 56.04 which was a season best by over three seconds.

Greta Titus and Jordan Peterson narrowly missed the top 20 in the 200-yard backstroke. Titus was 21st in a time of 2:22.62 and Peterson was right behind with a mark of 2:26.32 and finished in 22nd place.
