Cobbers Celebrate Seniors With Win Over Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/12/13)— Concordia capped their 2013 home schedule by beating Hamline 157-76. The Cobbers won eight of the 13 events in recording their first dual-meet win of the season.

Concordia started the annual Senior Recognition meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Jordan Peterson, Megan Obrecht, Emily Erickson and Rachel Aldinger swam a 2:03.64 to win the event by almost three full seconds. All four swimmers also went on to win an individual event during the meet.

Peterson won the third event on the day – the 200-yard freestyle. Peterson posted a time of 2:10.42 and just nipped Marissa Smith of Hamline. Obrecht won the final individual event of the afternoon. She clocked a 1:17.47 to get a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. Erickson was the only two-event winner for the Cobbers. She won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. Her winning time in the medley race was 2:30.15 and she swam a 1:08.98 to capture the win in the butterfly. Aldinger outdistanced the rest of the field to win the 500-yard freestyle. She came home in career-best time of 5:50.83 and won the event by 13 seconds.

The other event winner for Concordia was Amanda Suchanek. She recorded a time of 59.64 in the 100-yard freestyle.

In addition to the six individual event wins, the Cobbers also had numerous season-best times.  

The Concordia dive crew was trying out several new dives in the meet and had a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-meter event. Jana Hedstrom was second in both the voluntaries and optionals.

Up next for the Cobbers is the annual Dragon-Cobber Open. The meet, held at MSU Moorhead will be held on Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19.
