Cobbers Capture Plethora Of All-Region Awards

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/05/12)—The awards season continues to be kind to Concordia as four players and head coach Dan Weiler earned North All-Region honors. Libby Fransdal, Ali Nelson, Sarah Rounds and Gina Weiss were all named to the NSCAA All-North Region Teams and Weiler earned Region Coach of the Year honors.

Concordia has now had 16 players earn All-Region honors in the past four seasons – the most of any school in the MIAC.  Fransdal, Nelson and Rounds were all placed on the All-North Region First Team while Weiss was a member of the All-Region Third Team.   

The quintet of award-winners helped Concordia earn their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Cobbers finished with a 17-4-2 overall record which is the second highest win total in program history. The five were a part of Concordia's MIAC regular-season and playoff champion squad. The Cobbers have now won the conference regular-season title and postseason championship in four of the past seven seasons.

Nelson and Rounds are repeat All-Region award winners while Fransdal and Weiss are making their first appearance on the team. It marks the fourth straight season that Nelson has earned All-Region honors and the third consecutive for Rounds.

Weiler earned his the second All-Region Coach of the Year award in his 11-year tenure. He also claimed the top coaching honor in the region in 2009. Weiler has compiled a 144-58-24 record in his stint as head coach of the Cobbers. He is currently the winningest active coach in the MIAC.
