Cobbers Serve Up 50-Burger in Dominating Win
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (2/01/23)--- Concordia took time out from stock-piling impressive regional results to completely shut down Jamestown in a dual meet.
The Cobbers won all seven contested matches against the Jimmies and put up a 50-0 beat down in Jamestown.
The win is Concordia's fourth in its last five dual meets. The Cobbers are now 6-3 in duals this season – with all three losses coming to opponents ranked in the Top 25 of the country.
The Cobbers were spotted 18 points as Jamestown failed to enter a wrestler at 141, 157 and 165.
Concordia's two lightest competitors proceeded to set the tone for the seven bouts on the night. Freshman Kie Anderson came up with a takedown in the early going in his match at 125 and then turned his opponent in the second minute of action to come away with a pin at the 2:34 mark.
Anderson has now won six of his last eight matches and is 9-6 on the year with four pins.
No.6-ranked Ty Bisek stepped on the mat at 133 and did what he does best – offensively dominate his opponent. Bisek had a takedown, a 4-point near fall and a 2-point near fall all in the first period on his way to a 15-0 tech fall win.
Bisek, the current D3wrestle.com National Wrestler of the Week, has won 15 straight matches and is 24-1 on the year. His 24 wins are a team high.
Sam Kulseth earned the forfeit win at 141, before Kellen Schauer came up with a takedown in the second period, and an escape in the third to grind out a 6-4 decision at 149.
Schauer is 16-9 on the season and recorded his 51st career win.
Tyler Bents and Elijah Hunt collected six team points each for the forfeit wins at 157 and 165, and then talented newcomer Alex Rapelje used an 6-1 1st-period advantage to come away with an 8-3 victory at 174.
Rapelje has won nine of his 12 bouts since joining the Cobbers and has won six of his last seven matches. His only loss during that stretch came to the No.4-ranked wrestler in DIII.
The Cobbers also claimed 6-point wins at 184 and 285 where Connor Chloupek and Mason Swanson both came away with 1st-period pins. Chloupek had two takedowns in the first period before he posted his pin at the 2:29 mark. Swanson started his bout at 285 with a takedown which led to a pin at 2:51.
Sophomore Junior Surpris gave Concordia the final win when he claimed an 8-2 decision at 197. Surpris scored all his points in the first period with a pair of takedowns and a 4-point near fall. The victory is Surpris' first in a varsity dual meet.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers return to regional multi-team invites when they compete at the Don Parker Open hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire on Saturday, Feb. 4.
