Kasprick Caps Comeback Win Over Mary

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/08/13)—Cody Kasprick capped a nine-point comeback and helped No.11-ranked Concordia post a 20-18 win over the University of Mary on Tuesday. Kasprick earned a technical fall in the final match of the meet after the Cobbers trailed by three heading into the bout at 285.

Both teams won five individual matcs in the meet but Concordia scored bonus point wins at the end with six points from a forfeit at 197 and Kasprick's five-point victory at 285. The win evens the Cobbers' dual-match record at 4-4. The Marauders are now 1-2 on the season.

Coach Matt Nagel on the comeback win over Mary  (2:27)

Kasprick headed into his match with the Cobbers trailing 18-15 and needing at least a decision to get a tie. "I tried to tell him (Cody) to just wrestle normally," said head coach Matt Nagel. "I told him to just wrestle like you are trying to get points and the fall will come."

Kasprick made sure that CC would not fall for the second straight dual as he seized control of his match from the very first whistle. He went on the offensive and scored a takedown in the first minute of the opening period and then proceeded to get three near falls before the start of the second period. Kasprick closed out the match by getting his fifth near fall of the bout at the very end of period 2. That, coupled with enough riding time, gave him a 18-1 technical fall and helped Concordia earn the 20-18 win.

The other key match of the dual came at 157 where Cobber senior captain Kevin Fynboh eked out a 2-1 win in overtime. Fynboh's win was able to set up the late-match heroics. "He's wrestled that guy many, many times and he just ground out the win," said Nagel. "Had he not won that match it might have cost us the dual."

Fynboh is now 10-7 on the season and is one of five Cobber wrestlers to have a double-digit win total for the season.

The other two wins came at the very start of the dual. Gabe Foltz earned a takedown in each period and came away with a 7-5 victory at 125. It was Foltz' seventh win of the season. The next match produced back-to-back wins for the Cobbers. Yonas Gebreab took control of his match at 133 in the second period and claimed a 9-4 win. He had the only two takedowns in the match and earned a point for riding time.

Concordia will have an 11-day break before heading back into action at the Matman Invitational at Cornell College in Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 19 starting at 9 a.m.
