Cobbers Finish Off Twin Cities Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (4/14/24)---Concordia finished off its four games in the Twin Cities over the weekend by dropping a pair of games at Augsburg on Sunday. The Cobbers went back-and-forth with the Auggies before giving up a walkoff tun in the seventh to lose 3-2. CC wasn't able to get any momentum in the second game and lost 10-1 in five innings.

Game 1: Concordia 2, Augsburg 3
Concordia held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but gave up single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to lose by one run.

The Cobbers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a 2-out rally. Danielle Lyon started the rally with an infield single and advanced to third on a single from Gabriella Castro. Castro stole second and when the throw down to second base went into the outfield, Lyon was able to come home to give CC a 1-0 lead.

Concordia doubled the lead in the top of the fourth inning. First-year infielder Jocelyn Maki led off the inning with a single to center field. Rosie Unglaub pinch ran for Maki, stole second and then moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt from Lyon. She was able to come home on a ground out from Castro.

CC had runners on base in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with their best chance to score coming in the fifth when they had runners on first and second with only one out.

Concordia had nine hits in Game 1. Emma Bowman and Reese Hauck had multiple-hit games for the Cobbers. Both players went 2-for-3 in the game and for both players, it was their third multi-hit game of the year.

Mallory Leitner started in the circle for CC in the opener. She went 3.2 innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out one. Lauren Staples pitched 1.1 innings and Karissa Finnigan went the final 1.0 innings.

Game 2: Concordia 1, Augsburg 10
Like the opener, the Cobbers were able to score first and post a 1-0 lead.

Kailee Falconer led off the game with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bowman. Falconer moved up to third on a ground out and came around to score when Maki doubled to center field.

Concordia had two other hits in the finale. Morgan Linstad had a 1-out double in the second and Falconer had a 1-out single up the middle in the third inning.

Finnigan, Kayley Bosc and Lexi Burke got the call for the Cobbers in Game 2. Finnigan pitched into the second inning and gave way to Bosc, who went 1.0 innings. Burke finished off the final 2.0 innings.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return home to host St. Mary's on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
