Stymied In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/13/24)---Concordia lost a pair of road games in St. Paul on Saturday. The Cobbers equaled Hamline in hits in the opener, but lost 5-1 and then fell 7-3 in Game 2.

Game 1: Concordia 1, Hamline 5
Concordia and the Pipers were tied 1-1 after 5.5 innings before Hamline was able to score four unanswered runs to take the 4-run game.

Neither team was able to plate a run in the first three innings of play before Hamline scored a single run in the bottom of the third frame.

The Cobbers tied the game in the top of the fifth when a pair of first-year players combined to even the score. Morgan Linstad started the 1-run rally with a 1-out single up the middle. She advanced to second when the Pipers' defense committed an error off of a hot shot from the bat of Reese Hauck. Linstad came around to score when fellow first-year Cobber Jillian Martinez singled to center field.

Concordia had five different players collect hits in the opener. The only multiple-hit game was turned in by Jocelyn Maki, who was 2-for-3 and had a hit in each of the past three games. During that stretch, she is 4-for-8 with an RBI.

Karissa Finnigan pitched the first 5.2 innings with Lauren Staples coming on to get the final out. Finnigan allowed three earned runs on the six hits and only walked one batter.

Game 2: Concordia 3, Hamline 7
The Cobbers gave up the first six runs of the finale – including two in the first and then three more in the third.
