Seniors Honored During Annual Senior Day Celebration

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/3023)---Concordia celebrated its six seniors during the annual Senior Celebration Day at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Vanessa Ramos, Emma Redlin, Drew Syverson, Ellie Tofteland, Kate Wensloff and Molly Wilde were all honored between games of the Cobbers' twinbill with Carleton.

Concordia took a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh in Game 1 but then had the Knights score the game-tying run in that frame, plated four more in the eighth, and the Cobbers were dealt a 6-4 loss in extra innings. Concordia fell behind 6-0 in the second game and wound up on the wrong end of a 13-3 scoreline.

The Cobbers had three multiple-run innings on the day. The first of those came in the opening inning of Game 1. Wensloff led off the bottom of the first by hitting a laser to the fence in right-center field, allowing her to stroll into second base with her second double of the season.

Wensloff would come around to score when Karissa Finnigan connected on a 2-out double to right-center field. Wensloff and Kailee Falconer scored on the second double of the inning for CC.

Concordia would hold the lead until the seventh inning. Carleton (15-19, 6-12 MIAC) scored a single run in the fourth and tied the game in the seventh.

The Cobber had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh but had two base runners thrown out between third and home.

Carleton won the game by scoring four runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Concordia countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and had the tying run at the plate with one out but a ground out and a strikeout ended the rally.

The Cobbers had five hits in the opener, and four were doubles. Besides the 2-baggers in the first frame by Wensloff and Finnigan, Danielle Lyon led off the eighth with a double, and then Redlin drove in both runs with a 1-out double.

Finnigan was the only CC player with more than one hit in the first game. She went 2-for-3 and had two RBI.

Finnigan also went the first 7.2 innings in the circle, allowed four earned runs and struck out four. Mallory Leitner relieved Finnigan in the eighth and got the final out of the inning.

Concordia scored all three runs in the second game in the fourth inning to cut the Knights' lead to 6-3, but then Carleton responded with a 7-run fifth inning to end the game early.

Syverson had the big hit of the fourth for CC when she singled down the left-field line, which scored Kailee Falconer and Hailey Pangracs.

The Cobbers came up with seven hits in Game 2. Redlin was 2-for-3, while Pangracs, Falconer, Syverson, Tofteland and Lauren Staples all had one hit.
