Cobbers Lose Both Ends Of the Twinbill Against Gustavus

MANKATO, Minn. (4/19/23)---Concordia lost a pair of games against Gustavus inside the MSU Mankato Dome after the games were forced indoors because of the cold weather in St. Peter.

The Cobbers fell 6-0 in the opener, but then had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in Game 2 before the Gusties came back to take a 7-2 decision.

The two losses drop the Cobbers' overall record to 5-21 on the season. CC is now 1-9 in the MIAC. Gustavus ups its record to 12-14 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Concordia's two hits in the first game came in the third inning when Haleigh Lematta came through with a 2-out single up the middle, and then in the fourth inning when Hailey Pangracs had a 1-out single to left field.

Freshman Mallory Leitner pitched all 7.0 innings for the Cobbers. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits and struck out three.

The second game started in Concordia's favor when Rosie Unglaub led off the game with a walk, stole second and then scored on an error.

The Gusties would counter with a single run in the bottom of the second before the Cobbers regained the 1-run lead in the top of the third. Once again, the run was scored after the leadoff batter got on base. Lexi Burke started the frame with a single to right field. She advanced to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts and then scored on a wild pitch.

Gustavus tied the score in the bottom of the third, and took control of the finale with a 5-run fourth inning.

Lauren Staples started the game in the circle for CC and lasted 3.2 innings. She gave up five earned runs and struck out three.

Vanessa Ramos took over for Staples in the fourth inning and finished the game without giving up a run. She went 2.1 innings and only allowed one hit. Ramos hasn't allowed a run in her past two outings. She has pitched 5.1 innings in that stretch and only given up four hits. In her last 9.2 innings pitched, she has an ERA of 2.17 and allowed eight hits and struck out four.
