Cobbers Swept By Red-Hot Royals

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (4/11/23)---Concordia ran into a red-hot Bethel team and dropped a pair of games to the No.11-ranked Royals. The Cobbers fell 6-0 in the opener and 8-0 in six innings in the finale.

The two games end Concordia's 6-game road trip. CC played all six games in a span of four days. The Cobbers are now 5-17 in all games and 1-5 in conference play. Bethel wins for the fifth straight game and the 13th time in the last 14 contests. The Royals are 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers started slow in Game 1 as they allowed Bethel to post two runs in the first and second innings. Concordia came up with their only hit in the opener in the first inning when Karissa Finnigan laced a 2-out single to left field.

The hit extended Finnigan's hit streak to eight games. It is the second longest hit streak by a Cobber this year. Molly Wilde posted a 13-game streak at the start of the year.

The only other base runner for CC in the first game came in the fifth when Gabby Brown picked up a 2-out walk.

Finnigan pitched the first 5.0 innings. She only allowed two earned runs and scattered seven hits while striking out three.

The second game was more of the same. The Cobber offense couldn't get on track and Bethel was able to take a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Emma Redlin and Wilde recorded the only two hits in Game 2. Both hits came in the fourth inning. Redlin laced a 1-out single to left-center field and Wilde followed with a double to the fence in center field.

Concordia used four pitchers in Game 2. Mallory Leitner got the start and lasted 1.1 innings. Lauren Staples finished the second frame. Vanessa Ramos went the longest of the four as she pitched 3.1 innings. Marissa Piasecki finished off the game in the sixth inning.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 3-day break before returning to play on Saturday, Apr. 15 when they face Augsburg. The site of the DH has yet to be determined.
