Practicing Outside In The Snow Pile Shadows

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/03/13)—The Cobber softball team held its first outdoor practice of the season on Wednesday as they try and prepare for the upcoming flurry of games. Concordia is scheduled to play 10 games in a span of eight days beginning on Saturday.

"We are just playing the waiting game right now," said first-year head coach Mike Reese. "It's nice to finally be able to get outside on our home diamond but there is still a lot of work left to do before we can start playing in earnest."

Concordia has only had six games postponed or cancelled so far this season but will be facing a very busy schedule over the next three weeks. The Cobbers' doubleheader with St. Mary's at home on Saturday, Apr. 6 is still "up in the air" as to whether or not the field will be ready.

Reese went on to explain the concerns that are still left regarding the diamond, "we still have some standing water in a couple of spots." The Concordia softball infield is a natural sand/clay surface and still has water accumulate during the day after freezing temperatures overnight.

The Cobbers are currently 3-9 on the season after having played eight games on their spring break trip to Arizona and then four more inside the Vadnais Dome in St. Paul. Concordia currently has four starting players hitting over .300 and is led by Heather Jonasson who has a .379 average and is second on the squad in slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

After Saturday's twinbill, CC is slated to host St. Olaf on Monday, Apr. 8 and then play at Hamline on Wednesday, at St. Ben's on Saturday and then at Carleton on Sunday.
