Sele Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/02/12)—Concordia junior first baseman Kaia Sele (Bemidji, Minn.) was named the MIAC Player of Week it was announced by the league office. Sele hit .677 (10-for-15), had a slugging percentage of 1.20 and did not make an error in 39 chances in helping Concordia to a 3-1 record last week.

Sele's prowess at the plate helped the Cobbers, who were picked to finish dead last in the MIAC preseason coaches' poll, split with St. Olaf on the road on Wednesday and then sweep Carleton at home on Saturday. It is the first time Sele has won the weekly award in her career and she becomes the first CC player to earn the award since the 2007 season.

Sele started her outstanding week by going 5-for-8 against St. Olaf. All of Sele's hits on the day went for extra bases. She had a home run and four doubles and drove in three runs. She then backed up her mid-week performance by going 5-for-7 against Carleton in the team's 7-1, 7-4 sweep over the Knights.

Over the course of the week Sele went 10-for-15, drove in five runs and had six extra-base hits. She also ran her hitting streak to eight games and has hit safely in 16 of the team's 17 games this year.

Sele has a team-leading .463 batting average this season. She also leads the team in hits (25), runs (11), doubles (7), RBI (15), total bases (35) and on-base percentage (.525). Sele is in the top five of the league in batting average and on-base percentage.

Sele and the Cobbers will put their three-game winning streak on the line when they play a pair of conference twinbills before the Easter holiday. The Cobbers will play at St. Mary's on Thursday, Apr. 5 and then in St. Peter against Gustavus on Friday, Apr. 6.
