Match Storyline Remains The Same At Mayville St.

MAYVILLE, N.D. (9/17/21)---For the second straight match, Concordia played its best set at the start but then couldn't sustain the effort and lost in three. The Cobbers battled Mayville State to the wire in the opening set and wound up losing 3-0 (20-15, 17-25, 12-25).

Concordia has now lost two straight and is 4-7 on the season. The Comets win for the fourth straight time and are 11-4 for the year.

Like, their match on Wednesday in the home opener against Augsburg, Concordia started strong and had leads of 3-0, 5-4 and 10-9. The set went back-and-forth until the final five points of the set.  Trailing 21-19, CC watched as Mayville scored four of the next five points to grab a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 victory.

The second set was decided at the midway point. Concordia scored two straight points on a kill from Kenzie Urbanec and a hitting error by the Comets to get to within 12-10. Mayville then rattled off the next five points and nine of the next 11 to take control of the set.

Concordia never led in the third set as the Comets used a 16-7 streak to close out the set and the match.

The Cobbers hit .155 for the match as compared to .339 for Mayville. The Comets hit above .300 in all three sets, while CC's top mark came in the first set when they had a .244 attack percentage.

Mayville also held a 50-38 advantage in kills and a 70-59 mark in digs.

The Cobbers were led by senior Kendra Wiggs who had 11 winners and posted a season-high .435 attack percentage. Brook Carney came through with nine kills – her second highest total this season. She also hit .292 for the match.

Urbanec recorded 31 assists. It is the fourth straight match she has put up at least 30 assists. She now has 235 helpers for the year which is seventh best in the MIAC. Urbanec also had a season-high 10 digs to record her second double-double of the year.

Chloe Markovic led the Cobber defense with 16 digs.       

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a quick turnaround for their next two matches. The Cobbers will play Buena Vista and Minn.-Morris on Saturday, Sept. 18. Both matches will be played at Morris.
