Cobbers Begin Competitive Season With Scrimmage

MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/23/13)—Concordia kicked off the competitive part of their 2013 season by hosting cross-town rival MSU Moorhead in a preseason scrimmage. The scrimmage culminated the first five days of practice for the Cobbers and sets the stage for the team's first week of preparation before their first match of the year.

"A lot of the returners really stepped up and did a great job," commented head coach Tim Mosser. "And we are pretty pleased with some of the new gals too."

The Cobbers return five starters from last season and will be a more veteran group than the one that finished 13-11 last season. Last year Concordia was forced to replace a trio of All-Americans and struggled early in the year. CC got on a roll late in the year and earned their 12th consecutive MIAC playoff berth by winning six of their final eight regular-season contests.

Concordia will now prepare for the 2013 season opener on Friday, Aug. 30 when they play UW-Eau Claire in the St. Ben's Labor Day Tournament. The Cobbers fell to the Blugolds 3-2 in the opening weekend of the 2012 season.

Mosser is excited about the road ahead and likes what he sees so far in the preseason, "We have moments where we have been really good," said Mosser. "We just need to start putting more and more of those moments together in a single period of play."
