Wangensteen Earns All-Region Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/08/12)—Freshman Olivia Wangensteen was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Central All-Region Honorable Mention Team it was announced on Thursday. She is the only first-year player from the MIAC to earn All-Region or All-Region Honorable Mention Team honors.

The award caps an outstanding freshman season for Wangensteen. She was named the MIAC Rookie of the Year and was also placed on the MIAC All-Conference Team.

Wangensteen finished the year with 300 total kills and had a .224 attack percentage in the team's 24 matches. She averaged 3.61 kills per set and had 811 total chances on the year. Wangensteen had at least 10 kills in 14 matches in 2012 and had a career-high 27 kills against St. Mary's on Sept. 29.

Wangensteen led lead the MIAC with 169 kills while adding 137 digs and 15 service aces. She was one of just two freshmen named to the All-Conference team. She had at least 10 kills in eight of the team's 11 conference matches. Wangensteen also hit higher than .200 in all but three league contests.
