Ross And Wangensteen Earn All-MIAC Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/31/12)—Kynndyl Ross and Olivia Wangensteen earned MIAC postseason honors it was announced by the MIAC office. Ross and Wangensteen both named to the MIAC All-Conference Team and Wangensteen was also named the MIAC Rookie of the Year.

Rachel Wiinanen was Concordia's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

The three players helped Concordia finish in a tied for third place in the final MIAC standings. The Cobbers went 7-4 in conference play. Concordia made the MIAC playoffs for the 12th straight season and finished in the top 3 of the league for the third straight year.    

Ross had a breakout season after playing behind All-Americans Jenna Green and Katie Vohnoutka last season. Ross was second on the team in kills in conference matches. She was also second in total points scored in MIAC matches. Ross finished the 2012 league campaign by getting 107 kills and had an attacking percentage of .221. She also recorded 13 blocks and scored 118.5 points. Ross had double-digit kill totals in five MIAC matches.  

Wangensteen enjoyed a terrific freshman season. She led lead the MIAC with 169 kills while adding 137 digs and 15 service aces. Wangentsteen was one of just two freshmen named to the All-Conference team. She had a season-high 27 kills against St. Mary's and had at least 10 kills in eight of the team's 11 conference matches. Wangensteen also hit higher than .200 in all but three league contests. The Cobbers were 1-2 in the three matches that she didn't reach the .200 attack percentage mark.

Wangensteen was also named the MIAC Hotter of the Week on Sept. 24 following her two-match performance over Bethel and St. Kate's.
