Short-Notice Kalevik Posts Top 5 Finish At MIAC Heptathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/03/24)---10 days ago Jenna Kalevik didn't think she would be competing in her first conference outdoor multi-event in two years.

My how things can change in 10 days.

10 days later Kalevik led the MIAC heptathlon after Day 1, completed the seven events with a Top 5 finish and posted one of the Top 15 heptathlon scores in school history.

Kalevik crossed the line in the 800 meters, the final event of the heptathlon, in a time of 2:52.19 which pushed her total to 3,987 points and earned her a fourth-place finish in the MIAC heptathlon. Her final total was over 1,000 points more than her total from 2022 when she was a first-year athlete.

First-year Cobber Grace Ciarrochi was the other Concordia athlete in the heptathlon and she finished with a total of 3,413 points which was good for ninth place among the 18 all-around athletes.

Both athletes came through with multiple personal-best marks on their way to the finish line of the conference heptathlon.

Kalevik led the event after the first day by posting three PRs in the first four events and winning three of those events on Day 1.

Kalevik opened with a PR time of 15.07 in the 100-meter hurdles. That time was the fastest of any competitor in the race and earned her 832 points, one of three events where she scored over 700 points.

Kalevik also claimed the top mark in the high jump and 200 meters on Thursday. She cleared 5-02.25 in the high jump and clocked a 27.11 in the 200. Her high jump height got her 712 points and she scored 703 points in the 200.

Kalevik's top-scoring event on Friday came in the 800 meters. She posted the time of 2:52.19 which was a personal best by over 7 seconds and earned her 441 points.

Ciarrochi was consistent throughout the entire seven events. She scored at least 400 points in all but one event and didn't score more than 525 points in any event.

Ciarrochi came away with PR times in the 200 and 800 meters. She crossed the line in 28.81 in the 200 and had a finishing time of 2:49.33 in the 800.

UP NEXT: Kalevik and Ciarrochi will join the rest of the Cobbers next weekend when they compete in the MIAC Championship Meet on May 10-11 at Hamline.
