MIAC Multi-Event 3-Peat!

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/06/22)---Make it back-to-back-to-back MIAC multi-event championships for sophomore Peyton Selle. Selle staged a late-race comeback in the 800 meters to win the 2022 MIAC heptathlon crown with a final score of 4,322 points.

She successfully defends her conference heptathlon title, which she won as a freshman in 2021. Selle also claimed the MIAC pentathlon championship at the 2022 MIAC indoor meet.

Selle becomes only the second Concordia athlete to win back-to-back heptathlon titles in the history of the program. The other Cobber to achieve the feat was Kaari Jensen who went back-to-back in 2012 and 2013.

She is also only the sixth athlete in the history of the MIAC to win back-to-back heptathlon championships.  

Selle's final total of 4,322 points is the sixth best in program history, and No.13 in Division III this year.  

Selle had to hold off a late-event surge from runner-up Rebekah Salfer who cut Selle's lead to only 46 points heading into the 800 meters – the final event of the competition. Selle entered the event with a season-best time of 2:38.34, while Salfer's best time was 2:31.43. In order win the heptathlon title, Selle needed to finish within 3.7 seconds of Salfer. Not only did she stay within that time frame, Sell went out and won the 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:32.55.

Selle trailed by 30 meters early in the race, but then put together a monstrous final 200 meters and beat Salfer by 2.09 seconds.

Selle scored 636 points in the 800 meters which was the fourth event, of the seven, she earned at least 650 points.

Selle's top event of the conference heptathlon was the 100-meter hurdles where she ran a 15.75 and scored 745 points. Her time was a season best and only .01 of a second behind her PR.

Selle then tied her PR in the high jump with a height of 5-01.25. That mark got her 689 points.

Selle's other 650-plus event came in the 200 meters to finish off Day 1. Selle clocked a season-best time of 27.41 which was good for 678 and pushed her Thursday total in the first four events to 2,668, which gave her the lead by 74 points.   

Freshman Jenna Kalevik competed in her first MIAC heptathlon and finished in 14th place. She posted a score of 2,954 points. Her top event came in the high jump where she cleared 4-07.50 and scored 523 points.
