Johnson Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn.  (2/17/16)—Concordia sophomore Vanessa Johnson (Page, N.D./Northern Cass HS) was named the MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after posting a Division III Top 10 mark in the high jump at the NDSU Thundering Herd Classic on Saturday.

Johnson won the high jump at the NCAA Division I and II meet with a height of 5-06.00. Her winning mark is a personal best and the top height in the MIAC this season. She won the event by almost full two inches and remains unbeaten in the high jump this season.

Johnson is the only MIAC jumper to clear the bar higher than 5-4.5 this season, and her height is tied for the 10th-best mark in all of Division III. Johnson's unbeaten streak in the high jump includes victories at three different meets that have included NCAA Division I and II competition. Her latest performance ranks as her all-time personal best.

Johnson has steadily bettered each of her previous heights over the opening three weeks of the indoor season. In the annual Alumni Meet hosted at Concordia she cleared 5-01.00 and then posted a height of 5-05.25 at the Cobber Duals a week later. Johnson cleared a similar mark of 5-05.00 at the Cobber Open as a tune-up before the Thundering Herd Classic.

She has now won each of the three indoor meets she has competed in thus far.

Johnson will put her unbeaten streak on the line when she competes at the St. Ben's Quadrangular on Saturday, Sept. 20 at St. John's University.
