Hickerson Wins Events With Top 4 MIAC Marks

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/14/15)— Rochelle Hickerson showcased her running and jumping skills by posting a pair of event wins and helping Concordia finish third at St. Benedict Quadrangular.

Hickerson used her legs to run a 26.82 in the 200 meters and win the race by .19 seconds. She then turned around and leapt her way to a win in the long jump. Hickerson, competing in her first collegiate long jump event, came up with a mark of 16-10.50 to win by a narrow margin. Her time in the 200 is a team best for the year and the No.4 time in the conference. The distance in the long jump is also tops for a Cobber athlete this year and is also the fourth best mark in the MIAC this season.

Concordia's field athletes took care of the other top 3 finishes at the meet. In one of the least surprising wins of the day, senior All-American Cherae Reeves won the shot put. Reeves posted a distance of 46-09.00 and won the event by over seven feet over teammate Hillary Birchem. Birchem was second at 39-07.25 and Anna Skow-Anderson was third with a mark of 35-08.00. Birchem's distance is a season best.

The shot put was the top event for the Cobbers at the meet. Besides the top three finishes, Concordia placed seven athletes in the top 9.

Ashley Thompson came up with her best distance of the season in the weight throw. The junior finished second in the event with a mark of 38-09.50. That betters her previous season best by over two feet.

Vanessa Johnson and Karley Petersen had the other top 3 finishes for the CC field crew. Johnson was third in the high jump after clearing 4-11.75 while Peterson was third in the pole vault with a season-best height of 8-06.25.

Freshman Hannah Lundstrom had the top finishes for the track athletes. She placed third in the 400 meters and was fourth in the 200 meters. Lundstrom clocked a 62.44 in the 400 meters which is a season best and keeps her in the top 7 of the conference. Lundstrom's time of 27.30 in the 200 was slightly off her season best time but she continues to be in the top 5 in the league, just behind Hickerson.

The Cobbers will return to Collegeville on Saturday, Feb. 21 to participate in another quadrangular meet hosted by St. Benedict.
