Reeves Kicks Off Indoor Season With MIAC Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/04/15)—Concordia four-time All-American Cherae Reeves is hoping her senior year will be even better than her previous three track and field seasons. Reeves got the start she was hoping for as she earned MIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the shot put at the Cobber Duals on Saturday.

Reeves, who is the defending conference champion in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, posted a mark of 48-02.75 and won the event by almost a full four feet over athletes from 10 different schools which included NCAA Division II MSU Moorhead, Northern State, Bemidji State and University of Mary as well as NAIA area programs Jamestown, Dickinson State, Minot State and Valley City State.

Reeves has now earned the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week award on two other occasions during her career for the indoor season and twice for the outdoor season.

Reeves' season-opening distance is even more impressive since it was only five inches shy of her distance at the 2014 NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championships, which placed her third in the nation and earned All-American honors.

Reeves' distance of 48-02.75 is the top mark in the MIAC by more than five feet and currently ranks third in all of NCAA Division III.

The season will continue for Reeves, and the rest of the Cobbers, when Concordia heads across the red River to compete in the NDSU Thundering Herd Classic on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7.
