Reeves Named MIAC Field Athlete Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/26/13)—Cherae Reeves (West Fargo, N.D.) continued her breakout sophomore season by being named the MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Reeves earned the award for her season-best performance in the shot put at the St. Olaf Ole Open on Friday.

It is the first time in her career that she has won the conference weekly award and she becomes the first Cobber athlete to earn the honor this season.

Reeves won the shot put at the Ole Open  by recording the No. 2 throw in the conference this season and moving up the NCAA Division III leader board as well. Reeves won the by more than full meter, recording a winning distance of 13.70 meters on her first throw of the final round.

Reeves - who ranks second in the Cobber shot put history - was exactly 1.05 meters better than the runner up and nearly 2.0 meters better than the rest of the field. Her throw ranks second in the MIAC this season behind only Hamline's Becky Culp (13.92 meters) and her distance is the 14th-best in all of NCAA Division III thus far in 2013.

The Cobbers hope Reeves and her teammates can continue their great season this weekend at the conference meet, which will be hosted by St. Olaf College in the same spot as Friday's invite. The 2013 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships start Thursday at St. Olaf with the multi-event competitions, then continue Friday and Saturday with full event schedules.
