Seniors Honored On Final Weekend Doubleheader

SARTELL, Minn. (4/7/24)---Concordia celebrated its seniors on the final doubleheader weekend of the year. The Cobbers honored seniors Raquel Egge, Anna Hacker and Mary Skorich before their match with Macalester on Saturday and they played their final road contest of the year at St. Benedict on Sunday.

Concordia was unable to come away with a doubles win in either match and fell 7-2 to Macalester and 8-1 against the Bennies.

The Cobbers are now 3-18 in all matches and 0-9 in conference play.

Concordia 2, Macalester 7
Concordia trailed 3-0 after the doubles competition with the closes match coming at No.3 doubles where Lizzie Allan and Bell Hamre played a spirited match before losing 8-6.

The singles wins came courtesy of Skorich and Annalise Skrade. Skorich used her baseline game to earn a 7-5, 6-4 win at No.2 singles. The win was her fifth singles victory of the year, tied for second on the Cobbers. Skrade recorded her third win of the year when she outlasted her opponent in a super-set tie-breaker victory. Skrade dropped the first set 6-2 but then roared back to capture the second set 6-4 and finished off the match with a 10-4 scoreline in the tie-breaker.

Allan and Erin Borchard had the closest singles matches of the remaining four bouts. Both players lost by 6-3, 6-2 margins at No.3 and No.5 singles.

Concordia 1, St. Benedict 8
For the second straight match of the weekend, the Cobbers dug themselves a 3-0 hole after doubles play. On Sunday it was Borchard and Hacker that knocked on the door of a doubles win. They lost 8-6 at No.2 doubles.

Skrade doubled up on her singles wins on the weekend as she came through with the team point in singles play for Concordia. She won a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 decision at No.6 singles. For Skrade, it was her fourth singles win of the year and is 3-2 in her last five matches.

Hacker nearly gave the Cobbers a second team point, but fell in the tie-breaker. She won the opening set 6-3 and then lost the second set by an identical 6-3 score. Hacker then dropped a 10-3 decision in the tie-breaker.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the 2024 season when they host Hamline on Friday, April 19 at 11:30 a.m. The match is scheduled to be played on the newly resurfaced Concordia tennis courts.
