A Double Dose Of UMAC Wins

FARGO, N.D. (2/25/23)---It was a good day for the Cobbers as they swept their non-conference opponents from the UMAC conference. Concordia opened Saturday by shutting out Minn.-Morris, and then capped the day with an 8-1 win over Wis.-Superior.

The Cobbers claimed all six doubles matches, and 11 of the 12 singles contests, in the two team bouts.

Concordia started the 2-win Saturday by only dropping six games in doubles play against Morris. The No.1 doubles tandem of Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich won 8-0, and the No.2 team of Anna Hacker and Lizzie Allan and No.3 duo of Emily Savageau and Erin Borchard both won by scores of 8-3.

The Cobbers won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Egge, Hacker, Savageau, Allen, and Julia Wolf all recorded straight-set victories, while Borchard dropped the first set at No.5 singles but then rebounded to win 10-8 in the super-set tie-breaker.

The CC doubles crew set the tone in the second match against Superior. Egge and Skorich cruised to an 8-1 win to post their team-leading fourth win of the season. The pair is now 4-4 for the season.

Hacker and Allan claimed their second win of the day with an 8-5 victory at No.2 doubles. They are now 3-3 on the season.

Head coach Zach Zitur changed up the lineup at No.3 doubs, and paired Savageau and Wolf together for the first time this season. The move paid off with an 8-2 win.

The Concordia Top 4 singles players all ran their record to 2-0 for the day. Egge won 6-1, 6-0 at No.1 singles and is now 3-4 for the season. Skorich was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No.2 and is a similar 3-4 for the year. Hacker is the third CC player with a 3-4 record as she won 6-3, 6-2 at No.3 singles.

Allan and Borchard pushed their team-leading singles win totals to five at No.4 and No.5 singles. Allan posted a 6-1, 6-4 win, while Borchard won 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-5 in the super-set.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have little time to relish in their success as they will hit the road and travel to Minneapolis to plat St. Catherine on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
