Two Straight To Start 2023

FARGO, N.D. (2/12/23)---Make it two in-a-row for the Cobbers to start 2023. Concordia ran its win streak to two matches with a decisive 9-0 win against Crown in the home opener.

Concordia wasted little time in gaining the upper hand in the match as they cruised to three wins in doubles play. CC took a 3-0 into the single matches by only dropping two games in the three bouts. 

Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich won their second straight doubles match by scoring am 8-2 victory in the No.1 spot. Anna Hacker and Erin Borchard blanked their opponents at No.2 doubles, and the first-year duo of Julia Wolf and Kathleen Thompson followed suit with an 8-0 victory at No.3 doubles. The win was the first of their college careers for Wolf and Thompson.

The Cobbers carried their dominating style into the singles competition. Concordia won all six matches, and only lost five total games.

Wolf and Thompson doubled up their collegiate firsts on the day by posting convincing wins in singles play. Wolf took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No.5 singles, while Thompson came away with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.6 singles.

Skorich and Borchard made it four CC players with wins in doubles and singles on the day. Skorich stepped into the No.1 singles spot and rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The win was the second straight for Skorich who is normally the team's No.2 singles player.

Borchard won her first singles match of the year by posting a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) at No.4 singles.

Emily Savageau and Lizzie Allan only played in the singles matches for the Cobbers. Savageau was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No.2 singles, while Allan served up a 6-0, 6-0 blanking in her match at No.3 singles. Both Savageau and Allan are 2-0 in singles play in 2023.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will have a non-conference/conference doubleheader next weekend. Concordia will face crosstown rival MSU Moorhead on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., and then host Bethel in the 2023 MIAC opener on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at Courts Plus in Fargo.
