Rognlien Wins Prestigious Chris Evert Award
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/10/11)—Andrea Rognlien
became the first player in school history to earn the prestigious
Chris Evert Award for MIAC women's tennis it was
announced on Tuesday. Rognlien led the MIAC in overall single
winning percentage in 2012.
Rognlien was also named to the MIAC All-Conference Team in
singles. The two awards cap a storied career that featured medical
problems due to a blood clot. After missing her entire sophomore
season, Rognlien then went 28-8 in her final two seasons in singles
play.
The Chris Evert Award annually recognizes a senior tennis
student-athlete with outstanding sportsmanship and exemplary
athletic, academic and humanitarian accomplishments.
In addition to all her off-the-court qualifications, Rognlien had
a marvelous senior season for the Cobbers, earning All-Conference
singles honors to go along with the Chris Evert Award. Rognlien was
nearly unbeatable in singles play in 2012. In addition to her 16-2
overall record, she was also 9-1 in conference play. Rognlien's
play helped the Cobbers post a 13-8 overall record and a 4-6 mark
in the MIAC. She also helped keep the Cobbers in playoff contention
for a MIAC Playoff bid into the final weekend of the
season.
