Sheflo Stikes Twice To Secure Second Win Of The Season

MITCHELL, S.D. (9/18/23)---Freshman Emma Sheflo posted the best game of her young college career in helping Concordia beat Dakota Wesleyan 2-1 in a non-conference contest on Monday. Sheflo scored a goal in each half as the Cobbers posted their second win of the season.

THE 411: Sheflo's first goal came from the wing after she collected the ball on the right side of the field – just outside from the corner of the penalty area. She lofted a cross that turned into a shot and went over the keeper's hands and into the far side of the net. The Tigers evened the score when they got behind the CC defense on the left side, drove the ball to the net and scored on a breakaway from 8-yards out of goal.

The game-winner came on a long-distance shot from 35 yards out from goal. Sheflo gained possession of the ball, looked up to see the DWU keeper off her line and fired a shot that easily went over the goalie and under the crossbar. The goal came at 66:30, and CC keeper Kaitlin Petrich would only have to make two saves in the final 23 minutes of play.

THE NEXT LEVEL: Sheflo has now scored three goals on the season. Her two goals against Dakota Wesleyan is the second multiple-goal game of the year for the Cobbers. Sophia Robinson also scored a pair of goals in CC's 5-0 win over Neb. Wesleyan. Sheflo leads the team in scoring this year with three goals and seven total points. Her goal total is tied for sixth in the MIAC. Sheflo also leads the team in shots. She has 17 total shots, which is 10th in the MIAC.

THE NUMBERS GAME: Concordia posted a season-high 34 shots in the game and had a season-high 20 shots on frame. The 2- shots on goal are the most by CC since they dropped 24 on Buena Vista at the start of the 2019 season. Dakota Wesleyan had nine total shots in the contest and five shots on goal.

INDIVIDUALLY SPEAKING: Sheflo led the Cobbers with 11 total shots and six shots on goal. Junior defender Emily Larsen had a season-high four shots on goal, and Chloe Sollom countered with five total shots. Petrich stopped four shots to collect her first win of the season.
