Offense Explodes In Final Game Of The Season

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/29/22)---The saying goes, "better late than never" and that was the theme for the Cobber offense in the final game of the regular season.

Concordia entered its game at Hamline having only scored one goal in its last seven games. That all changed in St. Paul as the Cobbers exploded for three goals against the Pipers and came away with a 3-0 win.

Not only did Concordia score multiple times, they also scored a pair of goals in 80-seconds at the end of the first half.

The win gives the Cobbers a final overall record of 5-10-2. CC winds up with a 2-7-2 mark in conference play. Hamline finishes 2022 with a 4-9-4 record in all games and a 2-8-1 mark in the MIAC.

Concordia held the advantage in play in the first 30 minutes of the season finale. They had a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Cobbers got on the board in the 34th minute of play when Kylie Osborn picked up her first goal of the season. She was able to get free on the right side of the penalty area, and then fired a shot into the corner of the net at the 33:24 mark.

Senior Sophia Robinson doubled the lead when she picked off a pass from a Hamline defender, dribbled past the last Piper player and then slid a shot into the right corner on a breakaway from 25 yards out.

The goal at 34:44 was Robinson's team-leading fifth of the season.

Robinson would have a hand in the Concordia's final goal of the game. She gained possession of the ball in the middle of the field and made a pass to Samantha Holmberg on the left wing. Holmberg drove the ball up the field and then hammered a shot from 35 yards out that found the top right corner of the net.

Like Osborn, the tally by Holmberg was her first of the season.

The 3-goal lead allowed the Cobbers to sit back and put numbers in defense. Hamline only had one shot on goal in the final 30 minutes of play.

Concordia had an 18-16 edge in total shots and an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. Chloe Sollom led all players with five shots. Amber Weibye and Robinson both had a game-high three shots on goal.

CC split the goalkeeping duties. Bre Nelson played the first 45 minutes and made three saves to record her fourth win of the year. Kaitlin Petrich came on at halftime and turned aside three shots in the final 45 minutes of play.
