Late Breakaway Goal Gives Cobbers Tie On Senior Day

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/15/22)---Freshman Hannah Mukhtar's first college goal in the 79th minute of play helped Concordia earn  a 1-1 tie on the annual Senior Celebration Day.

The Cobbers and Auggies battled up-and-down the field for the full 90 minutes of play with both teams putting up eight shots on goal. Each squad also posted a 1-0 edge in scoring in each half. Augsburg scored in the 18th minute of play, before Mukhtar's equalizer finished the game with the 1-1 deadlock.

The Cobbers are now unbeaten in two straight games.

Concordia (4-8-2, 1-5-2 MIAC) had a couple of close calls in the first 45 minutes of play, but couldn't get on the board. The Cobbers best chance before the goal came at the 15-minute mark of the second period when a cross from the right wing went past the Augsburg goalie and was just behind the CC front runner who was running on to the serve.

The Cobbers finally broke through when senior captain Sophia Robinson won the ball just inside the Augsburg end of the field. She sent a volley behind the Auggie defense which Mukhtar was able to run on to.

Mukhtar sprinted past the Augsburg central defender and beat the goalie to the ball at the top of the penalty area. She was able to hit a 1-time shot that went past the keep and rolled into the back of the net.

The goal at 78:28 was Mukhtar's first collegiate tally. Robinson earned her team-leading fourth assist of the year and 12th total point. Her four assists are tied for seventh in the MIAC.

Augsburg (6-7-2, 3-3-2 MIAC) held a 16-12 advantage in total shots, with both teams having eight shots on frame.

Robinson led CC with four total shots and two shots on goal.

Junior goalie Bre Nelson made seven saves for the Cobbers.
