Hildenbrand Breaks 1-Goal Curse In OT

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/27/21)----Lindsey Hildenbrand's curling shot from the left wing in the sixth minute of overtime gave Concordia a 1-0 win over Bethel and helped the Cobbers break their curse of the 1-goal games.

Concordia had lost five of its last six games by a single goal, but that trend was reversed when Hildenbrand curled a shot over the Royals' goalie at the 95:42 mark of the first overtime period.

The game winner was Hildenbrand's first of the season and was set up by Grace Lawlor and Samantha Dalsin. The ball was played to Dalsin at the mid line. She then knocked it back to Lawlor who laced a pass to the left wing that found Hildenbrand in space. Hildenbrand cut the ball back into the middle of the field, which freed her from a defender, and then sent a shot from the corner of the penalty area that went over the BU goalie and into the far side of the net.

The win is the first conference victory of the year for the Cobbers and ends a 9-game losing skid. Concordia is now 4-12-0 in all games and 1-9-0 in the MIAC. Bethel falls to 5-11-0 overall and 3-7-0 in the MIAC.

The majority of regulation play featured a back-and-forth theme with each team holding possession in the other team's defensive third and then the teams switching ends.

Concordia was outshot by a single shot 15-14 in total shots and 9-8 in shots on goal. Both teams had quality chances from around the penalty area in both halves of play.

Cobber freshman goalie Kaitlin Petrich made a huge stop on a breakaway in the second half, while CC had an open shot from the top of the 18-yard box sail just over the crossbar.

Petrich, who was making her first collegiate start, made nine saves to record her first collegiate shutout. The shutout was Concordia's third of the season.

Freshman forward Kylie Osborn had a team-high four total shots and three shots on goal. Hildenbrand and Hallie Thompson both had two shots each for CC.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to finish out the 2021 season with a 2-game win streak when they host Hamline on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 3:30 p.m. The Pipers are 7-7-1 in all games and 3-6-1 in the MIAC this season.
