Baarstad Named MIAC POW

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/04/18)---Junior Kalli Baarstad used her three-goal performance in the opening weekend to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors. Baarstad helped the Cobbers split their first two games of the year.

It is the second time in her career that she has won the conference weekly award. She also claimed the honor last season after scoring the game-winning goal at Carleton on Sept. 30..

Baarstad was a one-player wrecking crew on Friday in the opener at Buena Vista. She scored the first two goals of the game, including the game winner, in Concordia's 3-0 victory over the Beavers. Baarstad notched the first goal of the year just 8:42 into the game. The first of her two unassisted first-half goals proved to be the game-winning goal.

Baarstad doubled the lead in the 36th minute of play and gave the Cobbers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Baartsad also scored the first goal of the game in Concordia's second contest at Neb. Wesleyan. She scored at the 53:53 mark to put CC up 1-0. Unfortunately the Prairie Wolves were able to score the game-tying goal midway through the second period and then scored two minutes into the second overtime period to take the game 2-1.

The three-goal output matches Baarstad's total from her first two seasons in maroon and gold. She also had three goals last season with her third goal coming in the 10th of the season.

Baarstad will hope to continue her early-season success when she, and the rest of the Cobbers, host St. Scholastica on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m. Concordia will then travel to Morris, Minn. to take on Minn.-Morris on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
