Cobbers Headed Back To Cali!
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/07/11)-- Concordia earned
an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament it was announced on Monday
by the NCAA office. The Cobbers will play Puget Sound (Wash.) in
the first round on Saturday, Nov. 12 at California Lutheran in
Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The winner of the first-round match between the Cobbers and
Loggers will face the winner of the Cal Lutheran/UC Santa Cruz Game
on Sunday, Nov. 13
The Cobbers are making their second straight appearance in the
NCAA Tournament and fifth overall national playoff appearance.
Concordia advanced as far as the Sweet 16 in
2009 and have a 3-4 overall mark in their previous four
appearances.
Concordia earned an at-large bid on the basis of their 12-3-5
overall record this season. The Cobbers finished in third place in
the MIAC regular season with a mark of 7-1-3 and then advanced to
the championship game of the postseason tournament by beating
Carleton 1-0. The 12 overall wins marks the eighth straight season
that CC has won at least 12 games in a year.
Puget Sound earned their trip to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of
winning their 10th straight Northwest Conference
championship. The Loggers are 14-3-2 this season and are making
their 12th appearance in the national playoffs. Puget
Sound is currently ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA West region
poll.
The two teams have a pair of common opponents this year. Both
squads played Chapman (Calif.) and UC-Santa Cruz. The Cobbers tied
Chapman 0-0 and lost to Santa Cruz 1-0 while Puget Sound beat both
teams by a 2-1 margin.
