Third-Period Power-Play Goals Drop Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/02/24)---Concordia gave up a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes of play and lost 2-0 at Augsburg.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 for the first 48 minutes of play until the Auggies scored two power play goals to come away with the victory.

The loss drops the Cobbers' record to 5-14-1 in all games and 1-11-1 in conference play. Augsburg wins for the fourth time in the last five games and is 14-6-0 in all contests and 10-3-0 in the MIAC.

Cobber goalie Hailee Bailey was the story of the first two periods for CC. She stopped all 17 shots she faced in the first 40 minutes of play.

The game changed when Concordia was called for a hooking penalty at the 7:01 mark of the third period. The Auggies won the faceoff and came up with a pair of shots that went wide before scoring the eventual game-winning goal 1:03 into the power play.

The second goal with the extra skater came at the 13:24 mark, just 18 seconds after the Cobbers had a player whistled for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Concordia would come up with a pair of shots in the final 4 minutes of play and were unable to score on a power-play advantage in the final 4:27 as they were blanked for the second straight game.

Bailey finished the game with 27 saves in goal for the Cobbers.

Concordia was outshot 29-20 in the game.

The difference in scoring came from the power plays where Concordia went 0-for-4 and Augsburg was 2-for-4.

Abbey Reule and Taylyn Cope led the Cobbers with three shots each.
