Sauvageau's Hot Streak Not Enough In Series Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/02/23)---Morgan Sauvageau continued her recent scoring tear but it wasn't enough as Concordia fell 2-1 to Hamline in the series finale.

Sauvageau scored her fourth goal in the last five games in the Cobbers' third 1-goal loss of the season.

Concordia is now 2-6-1 in the first nine games of the year and 0-5-1 in the first six league games.

Hamline wins for the fifth straight game and is 7-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the MIAC.

Sauvageau got the Cobbers off to a perfect start when she staked CC to a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the first period. Sauvageau picked off a clearing pass at the top of the faceoff circles in the Hamline zone and let loose a wrist shot that found the top left corner of the net.

The unassisted strike at 1:18 was Sauvageau's team-leading fourth of the year. She didn't have a goal in the first four games, but since then has scored a single goal in four of the last five. Sauvageau was second on the team in goals scored last season with 11.

Concordia would carry the 1-0 lead into the first break, but then the Pipers tied the score in the first minute of the second period.

The game would remain tied at 1-1 until 3:46 when Hamline scored the game-winning goal on a turnover in the Cobbers' end of the ice.

Concordia had a power play opportunity immediately following the Pipers' second goal but couldn't come away with the equalizer.

Concordia was outshot 31-17 in the game. McKenzie Oelkers, Lila Lanctot, Paige Hanson, Jayda Krikorian and Jerica Friese all had two shots on goal to lead CC.

Sophomore goalie Hailee Bailey stopped 29 shots in the game, lowered her GAA to 3.73 and upped her save percentage to 86.6%.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers have one more series before the holiday break. Concordia will host Wis.-Superior on Dec. 15-16.
