Late 1st-Period Goal Is The Difference In The Opener At Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/27/23)---Concordia conceded the only goal of the series opener at St. Olaf in the final minute of the first period and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Oles.

The Cobbers best period came in the third, when they outshot St. Olaf 6-3 and had chances in the final 9-minutes of play.

The loss drops Concordia's record to 5-13-0 in all games and 2-9-0 in the MIAC. The Oles are now 11-5-2 overall and 7-3-1 in conference play.

St. Olaf scored the winning goal at the 19:05 mark of the first frame after the Cobbers were whistled for an interference call at 18:04.

The Cobbers would eventually start the second period with a 5-on-3 power play when St. Olaf took a hooking penalty at 19:26 of the first period and then a cross-checking infraction at 0:36 of the second period. Concordia had three shots on goal in the 50-seconds of the 2-player advantage but couldn't come up with the game-tying score.

Concordia went 0-for-2 on the power play in the game, while the Oles were 1-for-3.

The Cobbers were outshot 21-17 in the game. Freshman Morgan Sauvageau came away with a team-high three shots, while Kaylie Zimmerman and Josie Hell both had two shots on target.

Kiana Flaig made 20 saves in goal for Concordia.
