Cobbers Flip The Script In Overtime Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/21/23)---Concordia flipped the script from Friday night, and came away with a 3-2 overtime win against Bethel in the series finale.

On Friday, the Cobbers allowed the game-tying in the third period and then lost in OT. On Saturday, Concordia had a reversal of fortune when they scored the game-tying goal in the third period and then netted the game winner in overtime.

Junior Jerica Friese's goal at the 1:26 mark of overtime gave the Cobbers a 3-2 win over the Royals, and helped CC secure a split in the series.

Friese took a centering pass from senior Grace Doerring and had two chances at the game winner. Her first shot was stopped, but then the rebound came right back to Friese and she buried it for the OT victory.

Midway through the second period it didn't appear that Concordia would be in a position to win the game in OT. The Cobbers trailed 2-0 and were facing another solid night in goal from the Bethel goalie.

The comeback trail started when freshman Morgan Sauvageau scored her ninth goal of the year at the 9:57 mark. Sauvageau banged home the rebound after Abbey Hardwick and Jade Ford started the play.

Junior Paige Hanson tied the game at 6:15 of the third frame when her shot from the point went through all the traffic in front of the net and eluded the goalie. The game-tying strike was Hanson's third of the year. It was set up by Ellie Brewer who won the draw in the left faceoff circle and dropped the puck back to the point.

That set the stage for Doerring and Friese. Doerring got control of the puck at the top of the left faceoff circle, and then spun to get by the first BU defender. She carried the puck to the goal line and then centered a pass to a wide open Friese.

Friese made the most of her two chances to net her team-leading 11th goal of the year.

Senior Kiana Friese stopped 14 of the 16 shots she faced, as Concordia outshot Bethel 28-16 in the game.

UP NEXT: Concordia will hit the road for the first time in 2023 when they travel to Northfield to take on St. Olaf on Jan. 27-28.
