Final 27 Minutes Gives Cobbers Momentum To Build On

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/06/23)---Concordia skated to a 0-0 scoreless tie with No.2-ranked Wis.-River Falls over the final 27-minutes of their series opener. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, they conceded three goals in the first period, and another midway through the second frame and fell 4-0.  

The Cobbers were playing their first game in 27 days and showed signs of rust as they allowed a pair of goals in the first 10-minutes of the opening period.

Concordia (3-9-0) was able to settle in during the final five minutes of the period, but not before the Falcons pushed their lead to 3-0 with a power play goal at the 15:52 mark.

The only score in the final 40-minutes would come at 12:45 when River Falls extended their lead to 4-0.

River Falls (10-2-0) held a 45-12 advantage in shots on goal for the game. The best period for CC came in the second when they were outshot 9-6 and went up-and-down with the Falcons.

Abbey Hardwick, Reghan Bork and Morgan Sauvageau all had two shots each to lead the Cobber offense.

Kiana Flaig made 41 saves in goal for Concordia.

The Cobbers were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Falcons went 1-for-3 in their player advantage situations.    

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will finish off their non-conference schedule when they host the Falcons on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
