Early And Late Goals Cost Cobbers In Finale At Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/02/22)---Concordia gave up a goal in the fourth minute of play and the final 50-seconds  of play, and fell 2-0 at Hamline in the final game of the 2-game series.

Unlike the opener on Friday when the Cobbers put together a comeback in the second and third periods to force overtime, there would be no game-tying goals for CC as they fell for the sixth straight game.

Hamline (6-4-0, 5-1-0 MIAC) scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 3:06 mark of the opening period. It was an even-strength goal and would be the only score in the game until the last minute of the third period when the Pipers scored an empty-net goal at 19:13.

Concordia (3-6-0, 0-6-0 MIAC) was outshot in all three periods, with the final total finishing 40-15 in favor of the Pipers.

Junior goalie Becca Macklin had her second quality start in goal for the Cobbers. She stopped 38 of the 39 shots she faced and kept CC within one goal for the entire game.

Neither team was able to score on the power play in the game. Concordia was 0-for-2 with the extra skater and the Pipers were 0-for-3. CC is now 2-for-27 on the power play in their last five games.

Sophomore forward Abbey Hardwick led the Cobber offense. She finished with four shots on goal. Kaylie Klemetsrud was the only other CC player with more than one shot in the game. She had a shot in the first and second periods and ended the game with two shots on goal.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the 2022 portion of its schedule when it plays a 2-game series at Wis.-Eau Claire on Dec. 9-10.
