Power Play Fizzles In St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (11/12/22)---Concordia went 0-for-8 on the power play and lost 4-0 at St. Benedict in the final game of the 2-game series between the teams.

The Cobbers allowed a single goal in the first period, but then the Bennies scored three times in the second period to put the game out of reach. Concordia had seven power play chances in the second and third periods, but couldn't find the back of the net and lost for the second straight game.

CC is now 3-2-0 in all games and 0-2-0 in the MIAC. The Bennies are now 3-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.

The eight power play attempts in the game for the Cobbers is the most in a single game for CC since the 2017 season when Concordia went 1-for-8 against Hamline.

On the other side of the special teams story was the fact that the Cobbers finally conceded a power play goal. Concordia entered the game having successfully killed off 18 straight power play chances. They ran that streak to 20 before the Bennies notched a power play tally at the 18:18 mark of the second period.

Concordia was outshot 39-13 for the game. McKenzie Oelkers, Keely Olness and Grace Doerring all had two shots to lead the Cobber offense.

Junior goalie Becca Macklin made a season-high 35 saves in the game. Macklin turned aside 69 shots in the 2-game series with the Bennies.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road for a 2-game series next weekend. CC will play at St. Catherine on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
