2nd Straight Shutout Gives CC 3 Straight To Start Season

HANCOCK, Mich. (11/04/22)---Concordia finished off its weekend in Michigan in grand style as they posted their second straight shutout and second consecutive multiple-goal win over Finlandia.

After rolling to an 8-0 win on Friday, the Cobbers answered with a 6-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. It marks the first time that Concordia has recorded back-to-back shutouts since the 2017 season when they had three shutouts in the month of December.

The Cobbers have now won three straight games to start the season. It's the first 3-0 start to a year since the 2011-12 campaign.

Concordia finished the 2-game series by outscoring the Lions 14-0 and putting up a 104-22 advantage in shots on goal.

While the Cobbers had seven different score goals in the opener, the finale was all about Jerica Friese and Jade Ford. The pair combined for five of the team's six goals. Friese netted a hat trick and also added an assist, while Ford had back-to-back goals in the second and third periods to finish off a 3-goal weekend.

It was the second career hat trick for Friese who also scored three times against Wis.-Eau Claire last season. Friese now has a team-leading six point on the season, and has 31 points in 30 games played for CC.

Junior Ellie Brewer came through with the other nugget for Concordia. She scored the team's fifth goal which was her second in the first three games of the year.

Sophomore Emma Fetch recorded the first two points of her Cobber career as she assisted on Brewer's goal, and then on the final goal by Friese with 4:12 left in the third period.

Concordia had at least 16 shots in each period, and finished the game by outshooting Finlandia 53-10. CC had four different players put up five shots each. Ford, Paige Hanson, Abbey Hardwick and McKenzie Oelkers all had five shots in the game.

Junior goalie Becca Macklin was the recipient of the Cobbers' play in Michigan. She needed to make only 10 saves to post her second straight shutout.
