8 Is Great

HANCOCK, Mich. (11/04/22)---Concordia scored at least two goals in all three periods and stormed past Finlandia 8-0 in the opening game of their 2-game series.

The 8-goal margin of victory is the largest since the 2015 season when the Cobbers beat St. Benedict 8-2.

Concordia (2-0-0) had seven players register at least two points in the game. Freshman Morgan Sauvageau had a pair of goals, while sophomore Abbey Hardwick and junior Paige Hanson led the team with three points each as both players had a goal and two assists.

The Cobbers wasted little time in getting on the board. CC netted two goals in the first 8-minutes of play. Sauvageau opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 3:34. Hardwick and Friese earned the assists on the eventual game-winning goal.

Senior McKenzie Oelkers doubled the lead when she notched a short-handed goal at 7:12 of the opening period.

Concordia exploded for four goals in the middle frame. Lexi Woodward, Hanson, Sauvageau and Hardwick all lit the lamp. Kaylie Klemetsrud recorded two helpers on the four goals, while Hanson and Hardwick added to their point totals with an assist.

The Cobbers had a pair of players record their first collegiate goals in the third period. Freshman Sophie Verkerke put her first score on the board at the 1:16 mark, and then sophomore Jade Ford finished off the scoring at 8:10 to record her first college goal.

Concordia outshot the Lions 51-12 in the game. The 51 shots on goal are the most by a Cobber team since the team had 68 against Northland at the beginning of last season.

Freshman Reghan Bork led all players with six shots in the game. Hardwick, Hanson, Sauvageau, Josie Hell and Friese all had five shots on goal for CC.

Junior goalie Becca Macklin made 12 saves to earn her second career shutout.
