Six Awarded MIAC Postseason Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/23/17)--- Concordia had five players earn MIAC earn postseason honors on the annual all-conference award list. Seniors Andrea Klug, Jess Nelson and Ellen Rethwisch were all named to the MIAC All-Conference Team while Amanda Flemming was placed on the MIAC All-Rookie Team and Chelsey Petrich received MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Jessica Kongelf was the team's selection to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

The quintet of players helped the Cobbers to a third-place finish in the MIAC regular-season standings. Concordia was 11-5-2 in conference play and went 14-8-3 in all games. The 11 league victories ties for second most in program history for a single season and the 14 overall wins is one shy of the school record of 15 set back in 2011 and 2012.

The five players also helped Concordia earn its seventh straight MIAC playoff berth. The Cobbers will play at No.2 seed Augsburg on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.  

Klug earns her first MIAC All-Conference award after being named to the All-MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Klug was in goal for all of the Cobbers' 11 MIAC victories. She was second in the MIAC in league wins and minutes played while being in the Top 7 of the conference in both goals against average and save percentage in conference games.

Klug played in all 18 MIAC games and logged 1,067 minutes. She finished with a goals against average of 2.42 and had a save percentage of 91.6%.

Klug was named the MIAC Player of the Week on two separate occasions during the year. She won the award on Dec. 5 and Jan. 16.

Nelson earns her first-ever All-Conference award after having the best year of her collegiate career.

Nelson was tied for team lead in scoring in all games and was third in conference games. She finished the MIAC slate with eight goals and five assists for 16 points. Her eight goals was tied for 11th in the MIAC and she also finished in the Top 16 of the MIAC in total points. Nelson had five power play goals which tied for the top spot in the MIAC.

Like Klug, Nelson was named the MIAC Player of the Week twice during the year.

Rethwisch garners her first-ever postseason honor. She also produced the highest point total of her four-year career in maroon and gold. Rethwisch tied with Nelson for the team lead in overall points with 21. Rethwisch was second on the team in scoring in MIAC games with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points. Her goal total was tied for fourth in the MIAC and overall she was tied for 10th.

Rehtwisch scored at least one goal in eight conference contests and had multiple-goal games on three occasions. She also had four game-winning goals which was tied for second most in the league.

Fleming was the most visible of the tremendous freshmen crew for Jason Gregoire's team. Flemming came on at the end of the season when she scored three goals and had four points in the last five games of the regular season. Flemming finished her first MIAC season with six goals and two assists for eight points. Her six goals was tied for third by a freshman and her eight points was tied for eighth by a first-year player.

Petrich earns her first postseason award as a member of the Cobber blueline crew. She played in all 18 conference games and was among the team leaders in minutes played. She finished with one goal and three assists. Her three assists was in the Top 25 of the conference for helpers by a defenseman.

Petrich's ability on special teams helped the Cobbers tie for first in the MIAC in power play goals and finish second in power play percentage.
