Klug Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/15)—If you stop every shot you face in a two-game series chances are pretty good that you will earn some weekly honor. That is the case for junior goalie Andrea Klug who was named the MIAC Player of the Week.

Klug stopped all 56 shots she faced in the Cobbers' 5-0, 3-0 sweep over St. Benedict to earn the conference weekly award. Klug becomes the second straight Concordia player to win the honor. Last week senior forward Anna Westmark earned the honor for her play in the season-opening series at nationally-ranked Wis.-Stevens Point.

Klug earns MIAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

Klug stepped into the role as the team's No.1 goalie this season and paid dividends in the role against the Blazers. She made 27 saves in the team's 5-0 victory on Friday and then stopped all 29 shots she faced in the Cobbers' 3-0 win on Saturday.

The back-to-back shutouts is the first by a single Concordia netminder since Madison Denny accomplished the feat back in 2013 when she blanked St. Mary's in a weekend series on Feb. 15-16.

Klug's biggest contributions against St. Benedict came on odd-man rushes and when Concordia was killing off their nine penalties over the weekend.

Klug came up with the routine saves but then made several spectacular stops when the Blazers had a 2-on-1 attack during the course of the 120 minutes in the two games.

With the two shutouts, Klug lowered her season goals against average to 1.68 and raised her save percentage to 94.4%. She is currently in the top 5 in the MIAC in both stat categories and leads the conference in shutouts.

Klug will put her shutout streak on the line when Concordia hosts St. Catherine in a two-game series on Nov. 20-21 at the Moorhead Sports Center.
