Denny Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/18/13)—Concordia freshman goalie Madison Denny (Andover, Minn.) was named the MIAC Player of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. Denny becomes the third Cobber player to earn the weekly award this season.

It is the first time in her career that she has won the honor and joins Anna Westmark and Madison Gendreau as the three CC players to win the conference weekly award.

Denny stopped all 30 shots she faced in Concordia's overtime tie and win against St. Mary's. She had eight saves in the 0-0 overtime tie and 22 in the team's 4-0 win on Saturday. Her performance helped the Cobbers gain three points which secured their third straight MIAC tournament bid and fifth in the last six years.

The back-to-back shutouts mark the second time in program history that Concordia has recorded shutouts in consecutive games. Denny now has four shutouts on the year which is the most by a Cobber goalie in a single season.

Denny is currently ranked fourth in the MIAC in goals against average for overall and conference games. She has a GAA of 1.85 in her 14 total games and a mark of 1.57 in league play. Denny is also in the top 10 in the league in save percentage (92.4%) and winning percentage (53.8%).

Denny, and the rest of the Cobbers, will close out the MIAC regular season when they host Augsburg in a two-game series on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
