Offense And Defense = Playoff-Clinching Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/16/13)—The offense finally caught up with the defense as Concordia put a whole game together and earned a 4-0 win over St. Mary's. The Cobbers scored two goals in the first 9:30 of play and recorded their second shutout of the weekend to come away with win and secure a spot in the MIAC playoffs.

The three points pushes the Cobbers' season league total to 22 which is good for a tie for third place in the conference standings with two games left to play in the regular season. Concordia earns their third straight playoff berth and fifth in the last six years. Overall, Concordia is now 11-7-4 on the year.

Having to digest a 0-0 overtime tie less than 17 hours before, the Concordia offense made sure there would be no "double bagel" repeat as they lit the lamp at the 4:31 mark of the opening period. Jenna Westerham collected the first of her two goals on the day when she scored an even-strength goal on assists from Bekah Wright and Ali Nelson. The trio would connect on the team's third goal of the game and Wright would finish with three assists for the game.

Anna Westmark added a second goal for Concordia midway through the opening period when she scored her ninth goal of the year at 9:30. She is now tied for the team lead in goals scored. Madison Gendreau earned the assist on CC's second goal.

The Cobbers would then add single goals in the second and third periods to bring the final total to 4-0. Westerham, Wright and Nelson combined to score on the power play in the second period at 5:11. Westerham had two goals on the season before the game and doubled her total in just 25:11.

Westerham wouldn't be done with adding her name to the score sheet. She set up Kelsey Vandegrift for the team's fourth goal at 11:43 of the third. Wright earned her third helper on the play as well.

For the second straight game Concordia dominated the Cardinals in shots on goal. The Cobbers more than doubled the SMU shot total as they had a 48-22 advantage for the game. CC finished the weekend with an 82-30 edge in shots for the weekend.

Madison Denny made 22 saves in the game for Concordia and stopped all 30 shots she faced on the weekend. She now has four shutouts on the season and is 7-5-2 in her 14 starts. St. Mary's goalie Tori Herrmann turned aside 44 shots.
