Early-Period Goals Cost Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/27/12)-- Concordia gave up a goal in the first 1:01 of each period and lost 4-1 to No.4-ranked Gustavus on Friday. The Cobbers gave up a goal just :39 into the opening period, then :35 into the second stanza and finally 1:01 into the final frame. 

Concordia got to within one goal at 2-1 when sophomore Breann Julius scored at the 18:55 mark of the second period. The Gusties then got the critical "next goal" in the opening of the third period. GAC went on to add an empty-net goal in the final minute of the period. 

Neither team was able to connect on the power play. The Cobbers were 0-for-6 in their man-advantage situations and Gustavus did not score in their four power play attempts.

The Gusties outshot the Cobbers 26-18 for the game. Concordia goalie Tamara Twite made 22 saves while Gustavus netminder Danielle Justice turned aside 17 shots to earn her 10th win of the year.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
