More Merry-Go-Round Less Rollercoaster

SARTELL, Minn. (9/04/16)—The first tournament of the season was less rollercoaster and more merry-go-round for Concordia as they posted a consistent 364-363=727 and finished ninth at the St. Benedict Fall Invite.

Despite the on-plain one-shot difference in the total team score, the Cobber individual scores were more of a rollercoaster ride with four of the five golfers having at least a five-shot difference from round to round. Junior Erin Pennington led the Cobbers with a two-day total 173. She fired an 84 on the opening round on Saturday and then came back with an 89 on Sunday. Pennington's 173 was good for a tie for 32nd place.

Senior Emily Grace Olson and freshman Alyssa Dalen finished within three strokes of one another and were the No.2 and 3 golfers on the team for the weekend. Olson shot an 87 on Saturday and then fell to a 93 on Sunday and placed in a tie for 46th place with a total of 180. Dalen reversed Olson by going lower in the second round. She shot a 97 in her first collegiate round and then dropped to an 86 on Sunday. Her two-day total of 183 was just outside the Top 50.

Katie Froemke and Katelin Krueger rounded out the squad for Concordia. Froemke found success on Saturday with a 96 but then added three strokes on Sunday and finished at 96-99=195. Like Dalen, Krueger let the nerves of playing her first collegiate round get the better of her and carded a 103. She posted the biggest improvement of any CC golfer on Sunday and dropped eight shots to come home with a 95.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will head east to compete in Wisconsin at the Wis.-Eau Claire Blugold Invite at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club. The two-day meet will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11 and Monday, Sept. 12.
